World Environment Day-2021


The Eco Cluband Internal Quality Assurance Cell of Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector-36 B in collaboration with Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration, conducted a National Webinar on “WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2021” on 5th June 2021. Sh. Mewa Singh Chhibber, IFS (retd.) was the eminent resource person.

The principal-cum Chairperson, IQAC, Dr. (Mrs.) Agnese Dhillon was the chief patron of the event. Thetheme of the webinar was “Ecosystem Restoration: Role of Teachers”. The webinar began with the welcome address by Dr. Richa Sharma, Associate Professor who welcomed the Resource personSh. Mewa Singh Chhibber, Shriman Nirmal Singh Dhillon, Chairman, Dev Samaj College of Education, Secretary, Dev Samaj, Principal, faculty members and students.

Sh. Mewa Singh Chhibber through his delicacy of expression pinpointed various facts related to our ecosystem. He further explained how the ecosystem loss is depriving the world of carbon sinks, like forests and wetlands, at a time when humanity can least afford it and the global greenhouse gas emissions have grown for three consecutive years and the planet is one place for potentially catastrophic climate change. He encouraged the prospective teachers to fundamentally rethink our relationship with the living world, with natural ecosystems and their biodiversity and work towards its restoration and to motivate the young generation to do the same. In the end the resource person interacted with the students and answered their queries. The participants were issued certificates for their enthusiastic engagement. Dr. Seema Sareen, Assistant Professor gave the vote of thanks.

The Eco club of the college also organized a national level quiz on “Environmental Awareness” from 4th to 5th June, 2021 in which over 200 people actively participated and were rewarded with e-certificates. NSS Units, IQAC and Environment Club of the college also launched an “Interdisciplinary Approach to Teaching of Environment” in which two best lesson plans from each subject were selected by respective subject teachers and judged by an expert committee. Results of which will be announced on 6th June, 2021. The Principalmotivated the participants by quoting that “Together we can be generation restoration.”
