Workshop on New Education Policy-2020 with regard to existence of Stand-alone Teacher Education Institutions

DevSamaj College of Education, Sector-36-B organized a one-day workshop on New Education Policy-2020 with regard to existence of Stand-alone Teacher Education Institutions in the college campus. The New Education Policy-2020 has been approved by the Union Cabinet on 29th July, 2020 and has been implemented across the nation. NEP 2020 recognizes the importance of creating a team of teachers that will shape the next generation and lays equal emphasis on revamping teacher education as well. The workshop was attended byPrincipals from various teacher education institutions of Punjab and Chandigarh and office bearers of CTEF (North). Dr. (Mrs.) AgneseDhillon, Principal, DevSamaj College of Education, and Convener of the workshop welcomed all the dignitaries and shared her viewpoint on New Education Policy-2020 with regard to stand-alone teacher education institutions.

In his presentation, Dr.Khushwinder Kumar, President CTEF, Punjab and Chandigarh Chapter, and Principal M.M. Modi College, Patiala, raised the issue of stand-alone colleges and the new models to be adopted for teacher education colleges at All India Level. Dr.JasveerChahal, Visiting Professor Fraser Valley, Chandigarh and Chandigarh College of Engineeringand Technology, Sector 26, Chandigarh stressed upon the issue of supporting stand-alone institutions and to fight for the professional status of teacher education course. Dr.Pargat Singh Garcha, Principal, GHG Khalsa College of Education, GurusarSadhar raised the issue of quality of curriculum framework to be implemented in 4 Year B.Ed. Course. Dr.Surinderjeet Kaur, Principal, Ramgarhia College of Education, Phagwara said that guidelines from Universities and NCTE should be provided for make-shift arrangements of stand-alone institutions. Dr.Sneh Bansal, Principal, CGC, Landran emphasized on maintaining the quality standards of teacher education and re-structuring of the curriculum. Sh. S.P. Khanna, Patron- CTEF (Punjaband Chandigarh Chapter) presented his views on the policy.

Dr. (Mrs.) SatinderDhillon, National Vice-President CTEF (North) presented vote of thanks and concluded the workshop.
