HIV/AIDS in India: Issues and Concerns

Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector-36 B, Chandigarh organized an Interactive session on “HIV/AIDS in India: Issues and Concerns on the World Aids Day.” Dr. (Mrs) Agnese Dhillon, Principal of the college was the Chief Patron of the event. Dr. Gaurav Gaur, the Assistant Professor, Centre for Social Work, Panjab University, Chandigarh was the esteemed resource person. The webinar began with the welcome address by Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Assistant Professor and the organizers of the event who welcomed Shriman Nirmal Singh Dhillon, Chairman, Dev Samaj College of Education, Secretary, Dev Samaj, the Principal, the faculty members and the students.

He shared that every year December 1, is observed as World Aids Day and is dedicated to raising awareness to the aids epidemic caused by the spread of HIV infection. He took the session with emphasis on HIV transmission, staging, stigma, prevention and treatment. He also shared numerous experiences of interaction with HIV infected persons and talked in length how the victims of the disease need more understanding and support and not rejection. Various queries of the students were also answered towards the end of the session.

The Principal thanked the eminent resource person for devoting her auspicious time and delivering an informative session and congratulated Mrs. Charanjit Kaur, and Dr. Harpreet Kaur, NSS Program Officers of the college for the success of the event.
